So what if we told you that there is a Pick-N-Pay store that stores it’s food (cooking oil, maize meal, energy drinks and soft drinks, among other goods), under the same roof as a mortuary?
You would yell ‘Fake News!’ because it is almost impossible to even think of. But the truth is that it is fact.
According to Sowetan, the publication has established that some of the food sold a Pick-N-Pay store in the small northeastern Gauteng town between Pretoria and Bronkhorstspruit is stored under one roof with dead bodies.
Angels Funeral Services and the storeroom of the Rayton Park Shopping Centre Pick-N-Pay are both situated in a medium-sized facebrick building behind the centre at the entrance to the town.
The building has two sections that are separated by a passage about 4m wide.
The store does not dispute the existence of such a weird arrangement, instead they say the funeral parlor operators are serving out their notice period and will have moved soon. We are not sure if the fact that Angels Funeral services will move out soon is supposed to be justification of the coexistence of dead bodies and food under one roof.
However, health experts have warned that the situation poses a health risk as chronic infectious diseases from the dead bodies could contaminate food stored in the building.
