Pretoria – Police have arrested two members of South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DCPI) commonly known as The Hawks for a number of offences including fraud, forgery and drug related offenses.
Captains Maggy Laura Lebethe, 47, and Mydarling Hlanganane Ndaba, 37, were arrested on the 31 of July by members of the South African Police Service – National Investigation Unit (NINU).
The two suspects, who are attached to the Endangered Species and Precious Metals Units in Pretoria, are alleged to have fraudulently obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence in Bryanston, Johannesburg.
The suspects were charged with fraud, forgery and uttering, perjury, and contravention of Section 4(b) of the drugs and drug trafficking Act No.140 of 1992.
They appeared at the Randburg Regional Court on the same day they were arrested and the matter was postponed to 14 July. They were both released on R5 000 bail each.
The SAPS announced that its officers from NINU were expected to make additional arrests.
