JUST four months into his top-paying job, SABC CEO Frans Matlala has been slapped with immediate suspension.
SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago confirmed yesterday that Matlala was suspended pending an investigation.
The broadcaster’s group executive of news and current affairs, Jimi Matthews, will be acting GCEO.
The organisation indicated it would not comment further on the matter until all processes had been finalised.
When he was appointed in July Matlala was paraded at a media briefing by SABC bosses. He became CEO after former SABC top executive Lulama Mokhobo suddenly resigned from her job last February.
Matthews is now acting in two positions – CEO and COO. Daily Sun called Matthews on his cellphone but he hung up.
It is understood he was in a meeting with other executives at the time.
