“Your worship, I didn’t go there to steal. I only wanted to defecate,” he said when quizzed about what he was doing in the shop at night. The magistrate remanded Shoko in custody to September 23 for trial. Prosecuting, Tomupei Mbiza said Shoko broke into White Lace Investments shop and stole some cash in August.
He was caught redhanded stealing from the same shop on Monday. “Between August 23 and 24 the accused proceeded to White Lace Investments shop in Hwange where he scaled the wall to the top of the roof,” said the prosecutor. He allegedly used an unknown object to break an asbestos roofing sheet and the ceiling to gain entry into the shop.
“While inside, the accused stole $41, R400 cash and airtime recharge cards worth $40 and went away unnoticed,” said Mbiza. On September 14, Shoko allegedly went back to the same shop at midnight and used the same tactic to gain entry. The owner of the shop found him before he could steal anything. Police were called and Shoko was arrested on the spot.
