A HARARE man had the skin of his male organs ripped off during a scuffle with his wife of five years, Alice Marimbire, on Monday.

The man, Evidence Mawoneke, is recovering at a local hospital.According to a police report seen by NewsDay: “The patient was pulled his manhood (sic) by his wife and the outer layer of the manhood was removed.”In an interview on his hospital bed yesterday, Mawoneke said he was overpowered by his wife while they were fighting and only realised later that he was bleeding. He said he could not recall what had transpired after that.“It’s just a case of domestic violence and I was overpowered,” Mawoneke said. Mawoneke’s relatives accuse Marimbire of misappropriating more than $2 000 given to her to buy building materials for their residential stand.

They accuse her of instead going for a holiday in South Africa. But Marimbire denied this.“It’s unfortunate a lot has been said including rumours that I used an object while fighting my husband, but the truth is I used my hand (to pull his private parts) while he was beating me up. I think my nails caused the injuries.“He gave me only $100 when I went to South Africa and it’s a lie that I spent the money. There was no money to buy bricks. What happened is when he came home he started shouting at me asking why I had not returned from Chitungwiza where I had gone with my child.

He started shouting at me, accusing me of sabotaging the development of our residential stand, but I asked him why he was saying that yet we did not have money.“Baba Kuda started beating me up while I lay on the bed. I only grabbed him, but did not pull his private parts.“We both stopped fighting and he apologised to me and my sister after the fight and we went to sleep. Later he complained of some pain (on his private parts) then I took him to the bathroom where I realised he was seriously injured,” she narrated.

Marimbire said she called for help from the caretaker, David Chagaka, who took him to hospital.“We fight a lot. Since we got married in 2005, we have been fighting, but we tend to resolve the issues because we love each other. I know now his relatives say what they want, but it was not my intention to hurt him, but defend myself,” added Marimbire, claiming to also have been hurt in the fight.
