Transport Minister Joe Maswanganyi’s spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi has been hauled before court by a popular actress over child maintenance.
The TV actress said although the court order was issued on June 26 and effective from July, she only received payment on Wednesday evening (August 2), after Sunday World had contacted Mnisi that morning about her claims that he had not paid.
The court had ordered the government spin doctor to pay R3000 in monthly papgeld and a further R4000 a year for the child’s clothes.
Mnisi’s lawyers Mpoyana Ledwaba Inc said their client had complied with the court order, but they only received a copy of the order on August 2.
“Although the court directive was with effect from July 2017, we only received the copy of the order on 2nd August 2017, in which we immediately complied retrospectively,” the lawyers said.
They said Mnisi paid R8000 to the actress, R6000 of which was for July and August and R2000 for clothes.
The actress, who appears in the prison drama series Lockdown, said she had taken Mnisi to the Johannesburg Family Court in June, because he had defaulted for more than 12 months.
She said as a result she could not pay her seven-year-old son’s school fees.
