Kallis ‘Embarrassed To Be A South African’

Cape Town – Former Proteas legend Jacques Kallis has expressed his disappointment at the announcement made by Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula on Monday regarding South Africa’s hosting of major international sporting events.

Mbalula announced that Athletics South Africa (ASA), Cricket South Africa (CSA), Netball South Africa (NSA) and the South African Rugby Union (SARU) are suspended from bidding for, or hosting, major international events due to them not meeting their transformation targets.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) will be seeking clarity to determine where it has failed in its quest to transform.

South Africa is not scheduled to host any major tournaments during the current Future Tours Programme (FTP), which runs until the end of June 2019.

That cycle ends with the next 50-over Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted in England.

CSA has also not signalled any intention to bid for any other major events.

“We need to review the contents of the report and understand where Transformation Targets were not met before making any further comments,” CSA communications manager Altaaf Kazi told Sport24.
