A police officer was lucky to escape with his life after a horrific hijack that saw armed robbers pull him out of his official car and into their boot in Kyalami in a movie-style incident that left him thanking his ancestors for sparing his life.

They drove off with the Midrand police constable before deciding to hand him R5o to make his way back to work after they dumped him on the side of the road near the Marlboro offramp.

“They gave him money catch a taxi back to the police station. They didn’t want to kill him. I think they kidnapped him because he was going to raise the alarm during a robbery in progress,” a police officer who did not want to be named said.

It is reported that Const. Enoch Mnisi was delivering court summons related to child maintenance and subpoenas in the evening after he had failed to locate the persons during the day.

A source said the unarmed uniformed officer was ambushed by a group of suspects who were robbing a business in the Kyalami shopping complex where he was buying food. He was then forced into one of the two vehicles they were driving, a silver Audi A4 and a Toyota Avanza.

Midrand police spokesperson, Constable Matome Tlamela yesterday confirmed the incident.

“We can confirm that the officer was kidnapped while buying food at a restaurant. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were robbing a restaurant when they spotted the officer. The suspects stole an undisclosed amount of money. The officer was unharmed,” Tlamela said.
